Burkina Faso coach admits Stallions CHAN effort not enough

Burkina Faso coach Seydou Zerbo has admitted that their stringent efforts at the TOTAL African Nations Championship (CHAN) was not enough to secure them qualification to the quarterfinals.

The Stallions crashed out of the tournament on Sunday despite playing to a goalless draw in their Group A match against hosts Cameroon in Yaounde on Sunday.

The result at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium means the Stallions were eliminated as they finished third in the group despite dominating the match and having several scoring chances.

Seydou Zerbo, coach of the Stallions, says they paid the price for their profligacy in the match against the host nation which they should have won.

“We were too offensive, and we could score two or three goals from the start of the game but the efficiency was not enough,” Zerbo told the post-match press conference.

“However, the game was fun. We narrowly missed the qualification and that's football.”

Mali finished top of the group with seven points after defeating Zimbabwe 1-0 in the group’s other game played at Japoma Stadium in Douala on Sunday.

Cameroon finished second with five points, Burkina Faso third with four points while Zimbabwe ended bottom of the group with no points.
