The final day of the first leg TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers came to a conclusion on Friday, producing some interesting outcomes ahead of the return leg fixtures.

Guinea were the biggest winners on the day while other ties produces closely contested results. 

Guinea 8 - 0 Mauritius
Goals: N.Kourouma 9th, 75th, M.S. Fancinandouno 40th, 66th, M. Camara 54th, S.D Lamah 59th, A Camara 77th, N. Camara 90th

A one-sided affair saw Guinea being the biggest winners of the day with a clinical 8-0 win over Mauritius. The high-scoring encounter sets the Guineans well on course ahead of the return leg set to take place in a week’s time. 

Guinea Bissau 0-1 Congo
Goal: F. Mabahou 90th

Congo had to sweat for an away victory against a highly-spirited Guinea Bissau as a 90th minute strike by Flore Mabahou saw the Central African side secure a late winner away from home. 

Barjona Mbemba’s charges will however need to work even harder in the return leg against this determined Guinea Bissau side. 

Democratic Republic of Congo 2 - 1 Benin
Goals: F. Pambani 18th, N. Kaba Kaba 55th / Y. Gnamni 36th

A two-goal lead was almost squandered at home by the Democratic Republic of Congo as Benin almost sneaked back into the game. 

After surviving the scare, the DRC emerged  2-1 victors to set up a mouth-watering return leg in Benin in the next few days. 

Côte d'Ivoire 2-0 Tanzania
Goals: F. Akebie Abrogoua 48th / I. Ida Guehai 55th

Hosts of this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League, Cote d’Ivoire came out stronger in the second half to seal an emphatic 2-0 victory over a stubborn Tanzania at home. 

Frédérique Akebie Abroguoa came off the bench to give her side the lead just minutes into the second half before Ines Ida Guehai sealed it for the Ivorians in the 55th minute ahead of the trip to Dar Es Salam.

Senegal 1-1 Mozambique
Goals: Nguenar Ndiaye 60th /L. Mocambique 52nd

An evenly balanced 1-1 encounter took place in Senegal as the West Africans hosted Mozambique.  

The hosts had to come back from behind to salvage a draw at home against a strong Mozambique side who will be hoping to use home ground advantage to full use when they host their opponents in a few days’ time. 

Cameroon 1-0 Kenya
Goals: E. Manbolamo 7th

 

The Cameroonians won by the narrowest of margins thanks to a goal from Eliane Manbolamo after an assist from Gabrielle Aboudi Onguéné. The Indomitable Lionesses will have to outwit this tough Kenyan team in the return leg in what promises to be a tough away trip for Cameroon. 

In the other matches, Gambia were edged 3-2 at home by Namibia while Botswana cruised past Gabon with a 4-1 victory. 

Mali enjoyed a 7-1 victory at home over Central African Republic while Tunisia also overcame Niger by the very same scoreline at home.
